Responsibilities
The Associate Vice President (AVP), Payer Solutions â” Partnerships & Market Development is responsible for leading enterprise strategy and execution related to payer relationship advancement, market positioning, and partnership expansion. This role provides executive-level leadership in shaping payer engagement approaches that strengthen access, financial sustainability, and strategic growth.
The AVP serves as a senior external-facing leader representing the organization in complex payer interactions while aligning internal stakeholders across contracting, operations, finance, analytics, clinical leadership, and value-based initiatives. This position drives identification, prioritization, and execution of market opportunities and supports the organizationâ™s transition toward integrated, value-aligned partnership models. This role reflects the evolving complexity of payer engagement and requires strategic judgment, executive presence, and the ability to influence outcomes across diverse internal and external environments.
Partnership Strategy & Market Development
Lead development and execution of payer partnership strategies aligned with enterprise growth objectives
Identify and prioritize strategic payer relationships across national, regional, and local markets
Evaluate market opportunities to expand network presence, service line access, and partnership scope
Represent the organization in executive-level payer discussions
Drive relationship alignment supporting long-term collaboration and innovation
Assess competitive market dynamics to inform engagement strategy
Strategic Payer Engagement
Provide senior leadership support in complex negotiations and relationship positioning
Guide prioritization and coordination of payer engagement activities across regions
Ensure payer relationships align with enterprise strategic and operational objectives
Support resolution of escalated partnership or contract issues impacting market access or revenue performance
Serve as strategic advisor to leadership on payer positioning risks and opportunities
Integration Across Enterprise Initiatives
Align payer partnership activities with value-based care initiatives
Coordinate engagement strategies supporting employer market development
Collaborate with CIN and clinical leadership to advance quality-aligned partnerships
Support integration of acquisitions through strategic payer alignment
Partner with business development to evaluate partnership implications of expansion initiatives
Cross-Functional Leadership
Coordinate collaboration between Managed Care, Operations, Legal, Finance, Analytics, and Provider Enrollment
Ensure payer strategy alignment across functional and regional teams
Remove barriers to execution and facilitate organizational coordination
Provide leadership guidance to regional payer relations staff
Market Intelligence & Strategy Development
Evaluate national and regional managed care trends
Identify emerging reimbursement and partnership models
Translate insights into strategic action plans
Prepare executive-level updates on partnership positioning and progress
Organizational Leadership
Provide mentorship and leadership development within the Payer Solutions organization
Contribute to enterprise planning initiatives
Support change management tied to strategic transformation
Foster collaboration, accountability, and innovation
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Bachelorâ™s Degree required. Masterâ™s Degree (MBA, MHA, MPH or related field) preferred
12â“15+ years healthcare leadership experience required
Experience in payer-provider partnership environments
Demonstrated experience influencing complex negotiations or relationship outcomes
Strong executive communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience working across employer, CIN, or integrated delivery environments preferred
Knowledge / Skills:
Ability to demonstrate executive presence and influence across diverse stakeholder groups
Ability to build, strengthen, and expand strategic relationships
Ability to navigate complex negotiations with sound positioning and strategic judgment
Ability to analyze markets, identify trends, and translate insights into opportunity
Ability to apply strong financial and operational awareness to strategic decisionmaking
Ability to lead organizations, inspire collaboration, and align crossfunctional teams
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasivelyâ”both in writing and verbally
Ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable insights
Ability to travel nationally as required to support payer engagement and market development activities
