The Stroke Coordinator will work with clinical staff across Denver Health to improve the quality of stroke care at our institution. Essential roles of the Coordinator will be (1) to help develop and implement processes to improve stroke care in departments and divisions including Paramedics, ED, Radiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Hospital Medicine, and Rehabilitation (2) to gather, analyze and present data for measures of stroke care quality and efficiency (3) to manage Denver Health's application for accreditation as a Primary Stroke Center (4) to participate in stroke education both with individual patients and at the community level.
Essential Functions:
Accountable for clinical compliance with Joint Commission guidelines for Stroke Center certification. Leads Denver Health and Hospital Association (DHHA) to achieve Joint Commission accreditation as a primary stroke center and works towards comprehensive stroke center certification. (40%)
Collaborates with Neurology and Neurosurgical Medical Directors, Stroke Center Manager, and other DHHA personnel to coordinate Stroke Center programs. (20%)
Responsible for major data registry abstraction and entry, including Get with the Guidelines through AHA. Creates and implements action plans based on data trends, activity changes, and certification impacts. (10%)
Provides stroke education to healthcare team members based on best practice guidelines, serving as a clinical resource for physicians and nurse. (10%)
Ensures the development, routine review, and revision of Stroke Center policies, procedures, and order sets. (10%)
Actively participates in departmental and DHHA organizational committees relevant to the Stroke Center program. (5%)
Acts as outreach liaison for stroke at local and state levels, partnering with the National Stroke Association, American Heart Association, and others, while promoting positive public relations and marketing for the Stroke Center program. (5%)
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
Master's Degree in Nursing preferred
Work Experience:
4-6 years hospital setting experience required.
1-3 years ED, ICU or Neurology inpatient experience preferred.
1-3 years Stroke coordinator experience preferred.
Licenses:
RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies required.
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
CNRN-Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse - ABNN - American Board of Neuroscience Nursing preferred.
NIHSSI-Stroke Certified RN - ABNN - American Board of Neuroscience Nursing preferred.
