The Senior Director, Accounting, is responsible for leading the organization's controllership and core accounting functions, as assigned, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role provides strategic and functional leadership over accounting, financial reporting, cost reporting, accounts receivable reserves, IBNR, and other Accounting areas as assigned. The Senior Director serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, partners closely with the CFO and Finance leadership team, and leverages technology, internal controls, and process improvement to strengthen financial stewardship, transparency, and compliance across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Oversee financial accounting and reporting activities, ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, internal controls, and organizational policies.
Establish, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and training programs to support accurate reporting, operational efficiency, and risk management.
Monitor and advise leadership on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and practices, recommending appropriate implementation strategies.
Oversee the financial support of partnerships with health systems.
Manage relationships with independent auditors and facilitate all external audits, including financial statement, compliance, and regulatory audits.
Partner with Finance Leadership to support balance sheet strategy, including debt structure, liquidity management, asset/liability objectives, and capital planning.
Parter with treasury for investor and creditor communications, including preparation of materials for rating agencies, bondholders, and financial institutions.
Build strong, collaborative relationships with operational finance, revenue cycle, human resources, facilities, information services, and other stakeholders to support informed decision-making and compliance.
Leverage financial systems and technology to improve efficiency, accuracy, controls, and data accessibility across accounting and treasury functions.

Experience within a nonprofit healthcare or complex service-based organization preferred.
Proven leadership and team development skills with experience managing and mentoring staff.

Proficient in financial systems, reporting tools, and ERP systems
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with key stakeholders.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration. MBA preferred
CPA required.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Accounting, Finance or Controllership functions, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity, leading teams.
