Assists manager in the daily operations at the unit level, in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of clean and sterile instrumentation, equipment and supplies for the operating room, inpatient/outpatient patient care areas, and regional patient care sites. Contributes to development and evaluations of assigned personnel. Assists and provides staff support utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment and skill.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates personal and professional accountability for self and staff.
Participates in performance improvement.
Participates in and supports staff recruitment and retention efforts.
Uses critical thinking to provide resource management through staffing plan development, managing daily shift staffing, and delegation of resources.
Supports and assists with human resource management including but not limited to coaching, time keeping, development and evaluation of personnel.
Promotes a positive work environment and staff engagement.
Serves as a resource to the team.
Monitors and maintains compliance of department activities including: decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, wrapping, and sterilization/high level disinfection standards.
Participates in various hospital activities as appropriate and as directed by the Manager.

Other information: Technical Expertise
1.Experience in sterile processing is required.
2.Must have working knowledge of regulatory standards for universal precautions, sterilization, and biological monitoring.
3.Experience in inventory control is preferred.
4.Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
5.Experience in healthcare is preferred.
6.Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience
1. Education: Associate degree in related field required*
*Employees within the current role must obtain Associate degree or higher within two years
2.Years of relevant experience: Minimum of four (4) years direct sterile processing experience required or five (5) years direct sterile processing experience required if external hire.
3.Years of experience supervising: None.
4. Requirements:
Must be subject matter expert in a minimum of three (3) specialty areas
Certification: CRCST required. Must obtain either CES, CSPM, CSIS, CST, CFER, CIS or CHL within one year of promotion.
Required to participate in performance improvement.
Required to assist with human resource management including but not limited to coaching, time keeping, resource management, recruitment, retention, and performance evaluation.
Physical Requirements
Ability to push and pull carts containing medical supplies and instruments.
Ability to stand for extended periods during shift hours.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Exposure to biohazardous materials and sharp instruments; adherence to strict safety and infection control protocols is required.
