The Eating Disorder Nurse provides quality nursing care to those with eating disorders (e.g., Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID). The RN provides care through the application of nursing process using evidence-based practice, focusing on excellent outcomes and patient experience in accordance with established standards of professional nursing care. The nurse collaborates closely with medical staff, dietitians, and behavioral health providers to implement individualized care that address both the psychological and medical complexities of eating disorders.
- Facilitates, provides, and coordinates patient care.
- Perform blood draws, urinalysis, and EKGs; communicate results to medical staff.
- Coordinate cardiology procedures with interdisciplinary teams and obtain prior authorizations as needed
- Supervise therapeutic meals and lead psychoeducation groups to support treatment goals.
- Maintain performance improvement (PI) reports, coordinate patient needs with administrative staff, and update data monthly
- Maintain inventory and order unit supplies as needed
- Provide clinical and administrative support to Adolescent Medicine physicians, including triaging calls, monitoring labs, obtaining prior authorizations, coordinating medication refills, and offering on-site clinic support.
- Schedule outpatient nurse visits for injection administration (e.g., Depo, Ceftriaxone), vitals, and weight monitoring.
- Engages families and caregivers in treatment planning and psychoeducation.
- Collaborate with dietitians, psychiatrists, medical providers, and behavioral health staff to ensure holistic and coordinated care.
- Completes required documentation and charting of patient encounters in a timely manner.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay current on best practices in the field of eating disorders.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care, concerns and planning.
- Advocates for patients and assist them in accessing community resources.
- Completes all mandatory AHS trainings and competencies as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- RN license required.
- 1-2 years' experience with pediatric patient population required.
- Experience in eating disorder department as RN preferred.
- Understanding of medical and psychiatric comorbidities commonly associated with eating disorders
Competencies:
- Demonstrate considerable expertise in the area of eating disorders.
- Participates in interdisciplinary collaboration between supervisor(s), dieticians, physicians and psychiatric providers.
- Understanding of the medical and nutritional aspects of eating disorders is beneficial.
