The (ICU/PCU) Registered Nurse is directly responsible to the designated manager in the assigned critical care area. The Registered Nurse provides an environment for the delivery of care to clinically complicated and severely ill patients with acute and potentially life threatening health issues. The (ICU/PCU) Registered Nurse is responsible for assuring continuity of care for ICU/PCU patients by implementing applicable disease management protocols as appropriate. The (ICU/PCU) Registered Nurse possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This knowledge will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. Interdisciplinary plans of care are developed, implemented, reviewed, and revised as necessary. The (ICU/PCU) Registered Nurse: Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient nursing care. Initiates treatments, administers critical medications, monitors effects and patient progress. Assists critical care physicians with procedures. Identifies sudden or subtle changes in a patient's medical condition. Collaborates with ICU/PCU team and other health care professionals. Responds to rapid response and code blue calls. Delivers regular updates to doctors, patients, and their family members. Operates technological equipment utilized on the unit. Maintains complete and accurate computerized patient records. Acts as a patient advocate. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients serviced in the assigned area of practice. Understands changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. Performs other related duties as assigned.
