POSITION SUMMARY This position supervises the physician credentialing processes, and assists the director in fulfilling the department's credentialing functions as outlined in the policies and procedures. Manages the workflow of requests from all system facilities, and oversees credentialing processes for all initial applications, reappointments, and other staff actions, for the medical and allied health professional staff.
CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Selects, trains and supervises the daily work of the credentialing staff.
2. Supervises the credentialing process for all initial applications and reappointments in a timely and complete manner. Performs analysis and appropriate follow-up of each initial application and reappointment.
3. Supervises maintenance of required documentation.
4. Oversees data entry of initial application and reappointment data into the database to ensure consistency and integrity of the data.
5.Works under general supervision and the guidance of the parameters established by the director and as outlined in the facility/entity documents. Requires the constant exercise of a high degree of independent judgment in response to complex and sensitive credentialing issues. Requires decision making, discretion, and use of effective human relations skills. Department and hospital responsibility. Internal customers include facility medical staff services, physicians, hospital personnel, corporate staff, hospital management, and volunteers. External customers include but are not limited to regulatory/accrediting and licensing agencies, legal entities, state and national databases, other hospitals and the general public.
Must possess a strong knowledge of business and/or healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of an associate's degree in business, healthcare administration or related field.
Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of healthcare planning as normally demonstrated through five years of credentialing experience. Requires a basic knowledge of medical terminology, medical staff organization and extensive knowledge of credentialing procedures. Demonstrated successful experience interacting with physicians and allied health professionals, their office credentialing representatives, and hospital personnel is required.
Requires excellent organizational skills and operational knowledge working with word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, and other common office software. Communication skills, both verbal and written, along with astute judgment in areas of human relations are critical. Must have the ability to effectively prioritize work in an environment of multi-functional tasks to be done simultaneously.
National Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (NCPCS) certification preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
