Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Physician Assistant is part of the Surgical Service Section at the Reno VA Medical Center. The Surgical Service provides surgical care in an outpatient and inpatient setting throughout the facility. The Physician Assistant will assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent and elective conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services under the supervision of the attending surgeon. Provides quality outpatient care in accordance with approved clinical privileges; Evaluates and treats general surgery emergencies in the emergency department, inpatient wards, ICU and operating room; Maintains a high degree of excellence in clinical outcomes while providing efficient patient care throughout; Maintains professional competency, courtesy and flexibility and provide the necessary services of this specialty; Attends and participates in outpatient clinics and takes an active role in the evaluation of the patient, decision for treatment/care, and complete timely documentation in the patient electronic records; Collaborative patient management along with the other departments and sections of the hospitals including, but not limited to, laboratory, Medicine, Radiology, and the auxiliary services; Attends all meetings required by the Organization and the Surgery Service in particular. TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES: Participation in the teaching programs of the University of Nevada, School of Medicine. Provide educational opportunities for students of medicine, physician assistant, nursing and pharmacy Schools. Residents in training in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and family practice may also receive instruction from Surgical Service staff. Provide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting employees (e.g. RNs, LPNs, technicians, administrative support staff) assigned to the unit during the performance of duties. Such direction and interaction will adhere to government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocol. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Interpersonal relationships: works effectively with patients, families, co-workers and other health care professionals. Act as a collaborative physician with PA's and NPs as requested by authorized staff. At the request of authorized personnel, responds to emergencies in the facility. Physician Assistants comply with information security policy, procedures and all documentation on coding. Document medical advice to patients by telephone as appropriate and in accordance with the VASNHCS protocol. Performs necessary administrative duties which include operation of VISTA and the computerized electronic patient record (CPRS). Meet established timelines for completion of documentation and encounter completion. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Financial Discloser Report: Not required
