We believe sustainable independent midwifery in the community setting is possible. The practice Fika Midwifery is the only independent midwife practice in Buffalo, NY. We attend births in our clients home as well as in our birth center, The Coit House, which is currently pursuing accreditation with the Commission for Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC). We are committed to highly individualized care and reproductive justice but also firmly believe community midwifery needs an overhaul—one in which midwives are not expected to work in solo practice. Our group of 3-4 midwives, supported with competitive salary and benefits, works together to share the responsibility of call while also enjoying the opportunity to get to know our clients. A full time midwife can expect to work two clinic days and share 24-48 hour call with the other midwives in the practice. We want you The ideal midwife will be supportive of full-spectrum reproductive choices and will be comfortable navigating the art of balancing evidence based practice, community and professional standards, and the rights of people to choose their birth location and team. Furthermore, the right midwife will be engaged in the powerful role that midwives have always played in supporting physiologic birth and will confidently undertake the role of supporting consent, choice, and shared decision-making. Fika Midwifery is currently working on obtaining a formal transfer agreement or hospital privileges; therefore the right candidate will be committed to facilitating meaningful relationships with hospital staff and administration so that we can offer high quality care in all settings.
