The Biomedical Equipment Technicians at Penn State Health are responsible for supporting the facility's biomedical equipment and/or clinical and non-clinical systems through safety inspections, scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration, unscheduled corrective maintenance, and projects.
* Perform electrical safety inspections and risk-based preventive maintenance in compliance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization standards.
* Troubleshoot and remedy various problems that may occur during equipment usage.
* Take corrective maintenance action when required. This may include replacement of defective parts, recalibration, realignment and performance testing.
* Work with patient care providers (i.e. physicians, nurses, technologists, etc.) in troubleshooting patient care equipment.
* Identify necessary replacement parts and supplies as well as sources for acquiring these items.
* Interface with outside contractors, vendors and other departments, to include customers, in critical projects and work assignments.
Associates Degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology or equivalent required (e.g MilitaryBMET Training) .
Six months related experience in servicing Biomedical Equipment and systems or related experience OR successful completion of a Biomedical Internship required OR successful completion of a Biomedical internship at The Penn State Hershey Medical Center required.
Familiar with the basic hand and power tools normally consistent with the field.
Experience in the operation of various electronic and mechanical test equipment (i.e. multimeters, electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, simulators, etc.).
Strong customer services skills.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Good initiative, ingenuity, leadership and analytical capabilities.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250 pounds.
Basic computer skills preferred
