The Credentialing/Privileging Specialists completes credentialing and privileging duties for permanent, temporary and/or locum providers who will provide services within SEARHC under the direction of the Manager of Medical Staff Services. The specialist will also provide administrative assistance to the various Medical Directors, the Medical Staff and the Medical Executive Committee as needed. The specialist collaborates with the administrative assistants of hospital/clinic administrators and various clinics to provide additional administrative support as needed.
Creates, maintains, and manages credentials files for medical staff (active, courtesy, consulting, and allied) by: assures all new medical staff complete a credentialing application; assures all applications are complete and accurate; obtains primary source verification for all applications in accordance with state, federal, TJC, CMS, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, to ensure all applications for appointment/reappointment are appropriately credentialed and privileged. Obtains interview notes from the gaining facilities Medical Director. Obtains references through direct contact with peer references, affiliations, and employers. Ensures privileging criterion is met. Compiles, organizes and reviews information to ensure any issues are flagged. Corresponds with medical staff and other healthcare professionals to obtain credentialing information. Works with the Manager to ensure applications are complete.
Supports expireables process to ensure primary source verifications are completed in a timely manner in accordance with federal and state regulations. Notifies providers of upcoming expiring licenses, certifications as required by credentialing and privileging. Updates credentialing software, additional systems as needed.
Provides administrative support to the Medical Staff as needed. In keeping with the supervisor's policies, and using judgment and discretion, personally answers questions and provides information. Prepares letters, memos, and reports into final form from rough drafts, brief notes, dictation or oral instructions. Responsible for proper spelling, grammar, format, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure.
Assists with the process and placement of Medical Students and Residents within SEARHC. Works with HR to ensure appropriate orientation arrangements are made. Submits information to HR to begin IT access process.
Support staff person for medical staff committees as needed by assisting with meeting preparation, taking, and preparing minutes of those meetings.

Associates in Business Administration or equivalent training and work
Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred. Applicants should pursue certification within 4 years of start..
2 years of office experience to include word processing and transcription skills.
Familiar and well-versed in Microsoft Excel and office programs.
