Primary responsibility is processing payroll and payroll reporting in a multi-corporate environment using the Lawson payroll system. Responsible for the entry, maintenance, and verification of information of an advanced and complex nature into the Human Resources/Payroll system using procedures that ensure accuracy and integrity of information. Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll-related transactions. Provides excellent customer service to Geisinger employees and management as well as external contacts. Responsible for maintaining advanced knowledge of payroll tax regulatory requirements, employee benefits and their impact on taxable wages, and the organizations human resources policies and procedures. Reports to the Lead Payroll Clerk.
Competencies and Skills:
Performs data entry, maintenance, and verification of confidential employee information in the HR/payroll system requiring advanced understanding of Lawson functionality.
Establishes and maintains voluntary payroll deductions, garnishments, direct deposit information, and tax withholdings. Maintains check distribution information.
Responsible for the review of time record audit reports and for making necessary corrections. Works with departments to obtain missing time records so employees are paid accurately. Resolves time entry issues. Reviews corrected time data for accuracy and completeness.
Provides exceptional customer service to employees and management. Assists in resolving computer problems encountered by employees when entering time data on the web or while utilizing other employee/manager self-service features.
Processes payroll corrections for prior pay periods by researching original payments made to employees and determining what adjustments are necessary. This includes adjusting paid hours, overtime, pension contributions, and time accrual. Enters corrections into the payroll system and verifies the information. Responsible for updating all affected time accrual plans.
Calculates and verifies manual paychecks applying knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and of the Fair Labor Standards Act governing overtime. Updates the payroll system with check detail information. Performs overpayment calculations for repayments.
Enters and verifies ongoing standard time records for part-time physicians and for taxable benefits, such as loan forgiveness, relocation, and domestic partner income.
Performs duties of a complex nature requiring advanced knowledge of Geisinger Health System policies and procedures and of the Lawson payroll system. Examples include processing payroll adjustments for taxable wages and adjusting general ledger payroll postings.
Updates Excel spreadsheets with payroll register information required for tax depositing and tax reporting. Maintains a variety of Excel spreadsheets used within the department and for distribution to other departments.
Works closely with Treasury Management on ACH returns. Monitors returns on banks website. Submits stop payment requests and ACH recalls to Geisingers bank. Maintains the check reconciliation system. Prepares and distributes payroll funding spreadsheet each pay cycle.
Supports the Positive Pay system by providing updates to the Financial Analyst.
Prepares payroll checks and deposit advice forms for distribution to departments.
Follows up with departments regarding unapproved time records. Assures the required approvals are received to guarantee compliance with audit requirements.
Prepares Accounts Payable Requests for Payments for payroll deductions. Responsible for distributing payments to vendors and government agencies and for including necessary documentation with the payments.
Performs other duties and assists with special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required. Requires three years of payroll, accounting, or related business experience or an Associates Degree in a business curriculum and two years experience. Minimum of one year automated payroll experience required, Lawson preferred.
Requires the ability to work accurately with figures and with great attention to detail.
Requires the ability to function effectively in a fast paced environment. Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.
Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. Must maintain confidentiality.
Requires demonstrated advanced computer skills such as Excel and Groupwise.\
