Position will oversee the Trauma Program and Trauma Clinic
Supervises and evaluates related activities for the Trauma Program. Responsible for quality of care, resource utilization and organization management of the trauma program. Provides leadership of trauma patient care initiatives, staff development, physician relationships, quality initiatives, trauma performance improvement processes and trauma program development. The Trauma Program Director is responsible for Trauma Center designation and verification processes.
MANAGEMENT/ LEADERSHIP - Demonstrates effective management/ leadership skills to enhance the Trauma Program and improve the quality of care. The Trauma Program Director must demonstrate the ability to approach problems in a creative manner and to implement change effectively.
Develops and role models a team approach with leadership team and department staff.
Promotes communication with team members.
Maintains positive attitude toward change and involves staff.
Develops mechanisms to implement appropriate changes and to evaluate impact.
Promotes staff participation in unit based committee activities.
PATIENT CARE AND TRAUMA PROGRAM FUNCTIONS - Effectively manages the day to day functioning of the Trauma Program in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager. Supports Trauma Program functions and related patient care through appropriate continuous improvement, risk management activities and compliance with regulatory standards.
Evaluates quality of patient care delivery for the trauma program, follows up and intervenes as appropriate to improve care.
Responsible for the efficient and effective management of operations of the Trauma Program.
Monitors staff to ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards.
Develops action plans to implement standards and to correct deficiencies.
On an ongoing basis keeps staff informed of changes in policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
HUMAN RESOURCES & EDUCATION - Provides staff with education and appropriate supervision utilizing human resource policies and procedures.
Plans, supports and implements recruitments/ retention activities in response to staffing level needs on an ongoing basis.
Provides administrative supervision of personnel, including hiring, evaluating, scheduling and taking official corrective action.
Completes evaluations in a timely manner.
Provides adequate educational opportunities for staff directly or via delegation.
SUPPORT OF HOSPITAL OPERATION - Ensures effective and efficient service by providing direct supervision of Trauma Program activities.
Demonstrates a collaborative approach to providing service and working with staff and other departments.
Demonstrates an understanding of hospital goals and how the goals impact the Trauma Program.
Actively pursues an understanding of hospital systems and how other areas function to ensure appropriate and efficient performance of duties.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT - Establishes and accomplishes professional goals jointly developed with executive leadership.
In collaboration with executive leadership, defines goals for professional performance and achievement.
Continually evaluates progress and redefines goals, as necessary.
Achieves mutually identified goals within stated parameters and time frame as determined.
Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth by attending educational programs and participating in professional organizations.
Provides oversight to the Trauma Performance Improvement Process including supervision of Trauma Registry. Ensures quality and integrity of data analyzes data for research and program development.
Authors and updates Trauma PI plan on an annual basis
Ensures that trauma registry data is accurate and has timely submission to the National Trauma Data Bank and the State of Arizona Trauma Registry.
Oversight of Trauma Performance Improvement activities.
Implementation of PI processes and change as necessary to drive Trauma Program improvements.
Oversees clinical care issues and supervisees or participates in rounds on trauma patients and assists team members in addressing barriers and or system issues in the delivery of trauma patient care.
Attends daily turnover rounds with the Trauma Service on a regular basis.
Works collaboratively with managers on Trauma Care units to facilitate optimal trauma care for patients.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Preferred: EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor of Nursing required.
Required: Valid current Arizona Nursing License, or Compact State License and ability to become Arizona Licensed in 30 days. Valid Arizona driversï¿½ license and proof of insurance that meets the minimum standards set by the state of Arizona. CPR.
Preferred: Masters Degree and experience in relevant clinical area is preferred.
Required: Effective leadership skills. Knowledge of all the necessary Arizona State requirements for trauma designation.
Preferred: Clinical and management experience. Three (3) years of progressively responsible trauma clinical experience including one (1) year of supervisory/management experience preferred. Trauma Program leadership is also preferred
