Nemours is seeking a part-time, 10 hours per week HIM I Abstractor. Schedule includes orientation that is 40 hours per week Monday - Friday the first few weeks after hire.
This position is responsible for utilizing multifunctional software applications to interface data/documents from the document management system to the EMR. Abstractors enter discrete data elements of clinical significance and consult orders for the hospitals, urgent care, primary care and specialties to support value based care. They participate in continuous improvement initiatives that ensure provider/customer needs are met timely and accurately.
Essential Functions –
Index documents into the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) as digital formats, for ease of storage, retrieval and use.
Enter discrete data accurately & timely to support clinical decision-making.
Analyze the specialty referrals and create the consult orders to initiate the scheduling process.
Process and reconcile health information exchange records through Care Everywhere.
Prepare abstract templates for new patient visits that meet the meaningful use criteria for value-based care.
Maintain a 99% accuracy rate and 95% productivity rate. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the HIM policies and reliable methods governing scanning and indexing.
Utilizing advanced technology to eliminate printing and redundancy of documents.
Apply critical thinking skills, exhibit strong independent judgment and research skills.
Able to assess complex problems, overcome challenges, and adapt to changes
Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee’s supervisor.
Associate’s Degree; RHIA/RHIT preferred
1-3 years related job experience
