JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing safe transportation to participants in a timely, competent manner and communicating important information relevant to overall care plan to the multidisciplinary team. This position is critical to setting the tone and desired experience expected by LIFE Geisinger for each participant on trips to the Center and other appointments. Reports to the Transportation Coordinator, LIFE Geisinger, Geisinger Community Health Services.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Demonstrated desired interest in working with the elderly. Must be mentally alert and have an ability to effectively plan and organize assignments in the most efficient manner. Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to function in stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to safely operate a wheelchair accessible van or vehicle. Specialized knowledge of local geography preferred.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or related equivalent required. One year of experience working with a frail or elderly population required. Valid Pennsylvania State Driver’s License required. Must maintain a driving record free from major infractions including but not limited to: Driving Under the Influence (DUI), negligent, recklessness, or excessive minor infractions or convictions. Employee must successfully complete defensive driving and passenger assistance training course within three months of hire. Additionally, employee must complete CPR and First Aide Training within six months of hire and maintain current standing thereafter.
