JOB TITLE: Patient Access Representative LOCATION: Holy Spirit Hospital DEPARTMENT: Patient Access Services WORK SCHEDULE: Rotation WORK TYPE: Full Time (1.0 FTE) HIRING MANAGER: Linda Fritz
JOB SUMMARY: Performs all necessary duties required for the admitting into/discharge from the hospital. Prepares, compiles, registers and maintains the Emergency Room and Outpatient records utilizing the current Admission and Business Office controls and procedures within established hospital policies. Registers pre-admitted and admitted patients, as well as outpatients, in a prompt and courteous manner. Ensures an accurate and complete registration process. Ensures that all appropriate forms are completed at the time of registration. Screens all Medicare patients for medical necessity. Has an ABN form signed when necessary. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Excellent customer service skills. Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population with tact and diplomacy. Ability to be sensitive, patient and empathetic. Computer literacy with excellent word processing and data entry skills. Close attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information. Familiarity with medical terminology. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language to effectively communicate with predominantly English-speaking population.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate degree preferred but mature high school graduate with concentration in business curriculum may be considered. One (1) year business office/collection experience and/or registration experience helpful. Willing to train candidate displaying aptitude for the role. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
