JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse Infusiosn LOCATION: Vitaline Building DEPARTMENT: Vitaline WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Provides infusion nursing services in the home setting. Infusion services are provided in a manner consistent with the standards of a professional registered nurse, in compliance with the accrediting regulatory bodies and within the professional standards and guidelines. Meets the required qualifications and able to assess, plan and teach patients from a broad age range and diverse backgrounds about the ordered therapy and the equipment required to provide infusion services. Is knowledgeable regarding the management and complications associated with vascular access devices and the therapies infused in the home setting. Utilizes appropriate problem-solving skills. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of VITALine Infusion Pharmacy and Geisinger Health System in its effort to provide quality patient care in a cost- effective manner, resulting in optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction. Understands and follows evidence-based practice guidelines of the Infusion Nursing Society (INS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) and Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) in developing the plan of care and ongoing treatment management of all infusion clients.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates proven venipuncture skills. Demonstrates experience with care and maintenance of all venous access devices including peripheral, midline, and central catheters. Demonstrates strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, is flexible, performs calmly under pressure and has strong problem-solving skills. Demonstrates knowledge of administering (including but not limited to): IVIG, Remicade, total parental nutrition, antibiotics, enteral nutrition, chemotherapy including administration of cytotoxic drugs, and pain management. Demonstrates the ability to calculate infusion rates, appropriate dosing by weight for applicable therapies, and infusion pump program changes. Must complete a pharmacology exam. Demonstrates customer focused interpersonal skills to interact in an effective manner with clients, families, practitioners, the interdisciplinary health care team and community agencies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited nursing program and licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum three years nursing experience with a minimum of one-year experience in an acute care setting preferred. Home Health experience preferred. Previous IV skills/competency preferred. BLS certification required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is completed in the home setting. Cooperates and shares responsibilities for covering week day and week end on-call services with other VITALine. nursing staff to ensure 24 hour/7 day per week nursing availability. Involves holiday work coverage in a rotation with other VITALine nursing staff This position may involve occupational exposure to disease and illness including but not limited to Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B and HIV viruses. Must hold a current Pennsylvania driver’s license and have a vehicle available for work.
