This critical role is responsible for the cleaning, housekeeping and janitorialduties throughout the healthcare system. On the job training is provided!
Performs a variety of healthcare environmental services (EVS) duties to enhance the healthcare environment by maintaining the location assigned. Follows special healthcare cleaning and trash handling techniques as required ensuring a professional and appropriate service standard while performing the job. Follows system wide standards as well as department specific service standards.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrates competence in written, oral and electronic communication skills
Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulatory bodies affecting healthcare practices.
Knowledge of practices and interventions for specific populations with specific conditions.
Utilizes knowledge of patient safety and error prevention to impede the spread of infection and disease.
Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation methods for maintaining linens for hospital facility.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous experience in environmental services in a health care setting preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., carry and push carts from 100 lbs. to 500 lbs. when performing duties. Works under a variety of temperature conditions. May involve transporting items outside of buildings in all weather conditions.
Possesses the ability to stand for long periods as well as to walk long distances to perform cleaning and disinfecting tasks of both high and low items/areas.
Requires ability to perform job duties correctly with in established System EVS standards to facilitate patient throughput.
Requires ability to tolerate the associated visual, auditory and scents associated with providing all kinds of medical and surgical care.
Work is typically performed within a office, clinical or classroom environment; frequently performs duties around patients, their families and clinical care providers as well as non-clinical staff
