Facility Overview: Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
General Duties: To provide quality, timely courteous service and optimum maintenance of patient accounts, including dissemination of information and billing services, follow-up and collection of accounts receivable, bad debt, governmental and contract compliance issues/guidelines. Access to Patient Health Information for billing purposes only.
Department Specific Duties: Review of patient charts as to procedures and time spent at various levels of care in order to compile and post appropriate charges using complex charge structure (see L&D Charge Capture guidelines). Attendance at monthly chart audit meetings as a representative for maternal child services, and work diligently to retain and research billing charges; working closely with the chart audit department. Participation in preparation of action plans for improvement; monitor charge codes for changes; assist with acquiring new charge codes; review of daily and monthly A23s; reconciliation of outpatients, deliveries and newborns utilizing log books, attendance at monthly staff meetings to answer questions from staff and update staff on any changes to charge structure.
ï¿½ Demonstrate proficiency in usage of computer software and related programs. ï¿½ Consistently demonstrates command of accuracy and detail of input data. ï¿½ Demonstrates proficiency in quality assurance review of charges. ï¿½ Routinely uses excellent communication skills when dealing with customers. ï¿½ Promotes positive working relationships with peers, patients, families, physicians and other departments to ensure a high level of service provided. ï¿½ Routinely files all correspondence to assure ready access. ï¿½ Demonstrates on a continual basis strong organization skills. ï¿½ Documentation is neat and legible.
Required: High School Diploma or GED Six months to one year hospital business office, insurance claims processing, physician office billing and/or hospital admitting experience PC/CRT experience, general office machines Basic accounting and mathematical aptitude Type 35 wpm or better Proven verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under stressful conditions. Preferred: One to two years recent experience in hospital business office Basic medical terminology with experience in obstetrical terminology preferred Working knowledge of third party payors, federal, state and local billing regulations Bilingual - English/Spanish Knowledge of OB documentation systems/terminology
