Assumes responsibility for care of patients and functions as a member of the health care team, taking direction and guidance from the Supervisor, RN or Physician. All care is provided in compliance with and according to department policy/procedure and Standards of Care. This includes but is not limited to vital signs, blood glucose, phlebotomy, Doppler, O2 application, suction, wound measurement and pictures. Tech will also be skilled in NPWT and assist the Physician in Total Contact casting and application of skin grafts. Administer dressing changes, staple removal and debridement s for wound and burn patients under Physician supervision. Order wound and burn care supplies including Interim care, custom Jobskin garments and skin grafts for patients using PeopleSoft. Track and order weekly linen use and medications and keep inventory of all supplies. Complete billing for all interim care and custom Jobskin garments. Maintains accurate patient chart documentation and billing sheets. Use the Graft tracker system for all skin grafts and pyxsis for medications. Participate in staff, patient and/or family education regarding wound/burn care. Participate in assessment of patient needs, education and communicates with the health care team. Participates in unit Performance Improvement activities and provides departmental statistics that aids in staffing and budget decisions. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Performs safety and monitoring requirements for hyperbaric therapy patients including, but not limited to monitoring of vital signs, blood sugar levels, monitoring of hyperbaric pressures, and patient progress. Assists with HBOT patient clearances and facilitates financial screening processes as requested.
AAS degree and/or CMA preferred.
Medical Assistant program/training required.
Hyperbaric didactic program preferred, clinical hours completed.
Successful completion of all orientation/competency programs.
By the end of the first year of employment, a wound care course, medication exam and burn theory class must be successfully completed.
