The EMG Technologist assist and helps to performs routine and complex EMG procedures on Hospital inpatients and outpatients of various ages. EMG studies may be performed in the laboratory or in the hospital as inpatients. The Neurologist and/or designee monitors and provides guidance to the EMG technologist. Assignments for daily tasks and overview of the technical quality of studies are done by the Neurologist and/or Nurse Practice Manager.
EMG Technologist Qualifications:
Neurodiagnostic Technologist skilled in performing EMG/Nerve conduction Studies.
Must have current CPR certification.
Skills and ability to accurately apply equipment to the predetermined areas.
Knowledge of electrode placement to accurately monitor physiological artifacts and apply additional electrodes.
Interpersonal communication skills to interact with tact and diplomacy with hospital and clinic patients, physicians, and staff at all levels.
Knowledge of medical terminology to accurately transcribe physician's orders.
Knowledge or ability to learn departmental and system policies and procedures. Ability to efficiently use computer system to retrieve pertinent patient information through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Adequate vision to read exams and to observe patient reaction.
Must have mobility and stamina to participate with heavy workloads.
Must be flexible to participate with the rotating on-call schedule for weekends and holidays.
