Nominations are being sought for the role of Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs (CMO) at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center (Children’s). Your confidential recommendation of a colleague/associate who is interested/qualified is welcome.
Children’s is a vibrant, cutting-edge children’s hospital affiliated with the College of Medicine at the University of Nebraska and Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Children’s consists of 145-beds, and the hospital has been caring for children since 1948. It is the only full-service pediatric specialty healthcare center in Nebraska. In addition to pediatric primary care, patients are referred from throughout a five-state region for the treatment of complex or unusual diseases. Children’s is a highly regarded, financially strong, progressive pediatric healthcare enterprise that is focused on providing high quality, value-based care by establishing a clinically integrated network across its service area. As a pediatric hub, Children’s is experiencing significant growth and expanding its provider network, as it works to further strengthen relationships with its academic partners. Children’s is also in the midst of significant facility planning for an expansion of the hospital. The Hubbard Center for Children will provide 500,000 square feet for a new NICU, PICU, Cardiac Care Unit, Hem-Onc Unit, ORs, Imaging Center and Emergency Department. The bed capacity will be increased to greater than 275 beds.
The CMO will lead the organization’s drive to ensure that care provided across Children’s is of high quality and value. She/he will also work to improve clinician alignment and satisfaction, and run evidence-based programs, practices and activities that lead to higher quality and safety. She/he will lead and provide direction to system-wide improvements in patient safety, quality management, accreditation and medical staff services. It is intended that the CMO will be a critical voice for clinical quality throughout Children’s, and the CMO will serve as the senior quality executive for Children’s Hospital and the pediatric services at Nebraska Medicine.
This dynamic professional will also provide leadership and expertise in the areas of population health management, disease management, clinical integration and care coordination. These critical tasks will contribute to the ongoing transformation of Children’s into an integrated healthcare enterprise capable of delivering accountable care. The CMO reports directly to the President and CEO of Children’s, Richard G. Azizkhan, MD.
The CMO will be a transformational, innovative, strategic and collaborative academic physician-scholar executive. She/he will have a minimum of 10 years management and medical practice experience within a complex, tertiary care medical center. Candidates will have strong academic credentials, with appropriate Board qualification in their pediatric discipline. We seek individuals with strong emotional and social intelligence, and a demonstrated ability to connect with others in a meaningful way at all levels of an organization.
