The Nursing Unit Manager provides professional, clinical and administrative leadership to the nursing Units with 24/7 accountability for 2N Med Surg Unit, 2N Step Down Unit & SICU Unit
Oversees and promotes safe, evident-based medical/surgical nursing care of patients and provides consultation to staff as required
In collaboration with Unit Director and Nursing Education, develops and maintains written, evidence-based nursing policies and procedures to guide staff practice
Assesses and facilitates patient / caregiver interaction and working relationships
Collaborates with Physicians, interdisciplinary team members and other hospital staff with the goal of improving overall patient care
Participates in staff development
Collaborates with Nursing Education in support of overall caregiver education and training
Acts as a mentor for caregivers and provides guidance and support to their overall development
Participates in the corrective action and disciplinary process for caregivers as required in order to improve job performance
Ensures the timely completion of caregiver annual performance appraisals
Participates in the budget development process and reports on monthly budget variance as required
Provides cost control oversight and serves as a role model for Unit cost containment activities
Ensures that all rules and regulations specified by various governing bodies are strictly adhered to
Minimum Experience Requirements:
Bachelors degree required – Masters preferred
Current RN license in the State of Illinois
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
2 years leadership experience
3-5 years staff nurse in acute care hospital setting
Two years ICU clinical experience preferred
Two years experience in a Clinical Nursing Leadership position
Good Interpersonal skills
Ability to organize, mentor and lead others
Ability to function independently within scope of clinical practice

Mount Sinai Hospital, to inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient therapy services at Schwab. We also
have a hospital-based rehabilitation-focused short-term sub-acute unit at Schwab that provides both
therapy and nursing services with exceptional outcomes.
Our rehabilitation team takes a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to address the physical, cognitive
and psychosocial needs of each patient. Each patient is assessed and provided with a personalized care
plan tailored to help achieve maximal independence and function. Schwab offers seven treatment
gyms featuring private treatment rooms, a warm-water indoor therapy pool, and an award-winning
