JOB SUMMARY:
Processes and prepares tissue specimens for examination by Pathologists. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. Works under the general supervision of the Technical Specialist, Histology and the administrative direction of the Supervisor, Anatomic Pathology and/or Operations Director of Anatomic Pathology. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrated accuracy and precision in cutting, mounting and staining of tissue sections. Demonstrated effective organizational and communication skills. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: One year of training in an approved school of Histotechnology required. HT or HTL ASCP certification required . Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred. Requires up to three months on the job training to reach acceptable level of performance. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands: Subject to exposure to infectious diseases. Handles hazardous chemicals. Must be able to lift and pour containers of reagents. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods and maintain concentration, precision and accuracy. Must pass standardized color vision test. Protective equipment (as required by test performed): eye protection, face protection, lab coat, nonsterile medical gloves.
