Henderson Hospital Henderson Hospital is a member of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals that provide care for patients throughout Southern Nevada and nearby communities. Located in the suburb of Henderson, the 120-bed hospital, which opened in 2016, offers emergency care, surgical services, including an ambulatory surgery center, cardiovascular care, women's health and maternity services. A level II neonatal intensive care unit is slated to open by late 2017. Job Description Pharmacy Technicians, under the supervision of a license pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department. Pharmacy Technicians assist the pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy Technicians function in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines and state and federal regulations. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. Essential Job Duties: Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request of prearranged work assignment within specified time frame. Has all work checked by a registered pharmacist prior to leaving the pharmacy. Maintains awareness of developments in pharmacy and healthcare that relate to job responsibilities and integrates them into their practice. Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects in pharmacy services, including but not limited to: Drug names and classification, medication order and prescription interpretation, prescription computer order entry, pharmaceutical calculations, medication error prevention methods. Maintains a working knowledge of the general chemical and physical properties of drugs handled in the pharmacy department. This includes but is not limited to, identifying medications that are light sensitive, requires refrigeration, are caustic, or poisonous. Is able to use reference books to locate stability information or material safety data sheets. Carries out the calculations required for the usual dosage determinations and solutions preparation using weight and volume equivalents in both the metric and apothecary systems and has a registered pharmacist check prior to use for preparation of product. Interacts effectively with other members of the healthcare team on a regular basis. Maintains attentiveness to the rights of patients. Maintain confidentiality of patient information. Operates automatic technology, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, automated dispensing cabinets, computers, unit dose machines, etc) in accordance to policy, procedures, and manufacture's instructions. Issues controlled substances, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law. Performs the essential functions relating to drug purchasing and inventory control as needed. Participates in continuing education programs, meeting, training programs and related activities. Participates in the quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department. Collects data, conducts inspections and maintains logs and other documentation as assigned. Participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education and training programs for new employees. Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, and fire and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
